Summer Day at the Beach 0

Today turned into a total Summer Beach Day!
It started in the morning with a beautiful bike ride to Hermosa Beach. Where I stopped at Hennessey’s Tavern and got a beer.

After the ride I sat out on my balcony thinking how nice it was, so I walked out to my back yard and laid on the beach. After a refreshing nap I went for a walk along the beach – - well, I actually walked a couple of miles, what can I say it was so nice out.

I then took a shower and went over to venice Sidewalk Cafe to have a cold beer and some dinner. I sat next to a guy named Danny who was a Hollywood hair designer. He was pretty cool, but the blonde next to me kept distracting me haha

came home and after a day in the sun and quite a few beers in me, I dozed off to sleep…

Gnomon VES 2007 Project with extras 0

I finally got around to putting together the extra footage I took while I was helping out to create the opening credits for the Visual Effect Society Festival back in June.
I got the voice over of Pam Hogarth during one of the breaks at the actually VES festival in June and just edited some clips of the students working on the project over it. Then today because I really couldn’t stand the just the plain audio score on the credits. Sound is such a major part of visual effects I decided to add in sound effects from my Final Cut Studio software Soundtrack Pro. Took all day but, in my view I like it so much better now.

Here’s the video:

Got an iPhone 0

Well, I finally went into the Apple store in Santa Monica and got my iPhone!!!!

Yes, I finally retired my old Nokia phone that I have had , well, forever. I don’t really use my phone that much, but I see myself using the iPhone as a media player and checking email. It’s sooo cool!

I watch Miami Ink and thought Kat was quite talented, when they let her go form the tatoo show there I didn’t know what was going to happen. So I will definitely check out the show. I saw Kat at LAX a couple of months ago – she’s a big girl, but then again I am a little guy haha

New Toilet? yep, it’s cool 0

Last Friday I found a notice on my apartment door that they were going to change my toilet to a water saver on monday. I never thought I could get excited about a toilet, but I have to say this thing is cool. I remember a line from the old TV show ‘Mad About You‘ where Paul Reiser said …I want one flush and it’s all gone… and that is exactly what this toilet does. It’s got like this pressurized water jet or something. Even Mr. Hanky came to check out the new thorn, and if you don’t know Mr. Hanky is you need to watch more South Park.

Mid July Weekend 0

I was going to pick up an iPhone Friday after work, but my car acted a bit strange after I picked up a cable from SamAsh — so I thought maybe I should have my car served before I do the iPhone thing.
Saturday was busy. Took the car in for an oil change and to be checked over. Went for a nice long bike ride to Hermosa Beach — ran into Kenny a bartender there from awhile back, said he was picking up shifts. Afterwards took a nice nap on the balcony in the summer sun. Then began to go through my DV tapes from my new Canon HV20 HDR video camera. Sorted through most of them and began to edit the video I took at Gnomon School of the Visual Effects during the process of documenting the creation of the VES credits.

oh, it turned out it was just a loose wire to my battery that cause my car to act strange, so iPhone here I come…

Of course as unsual I watched TV and couple movies.
I confess I am now a HD junkie, after watching things in High Definition it’s quite hard to go back to Standard Definition. Found myself watching a couple of Discovery shows on my DVR.
Pan’s Labyrinth had some incredable effects, but wow that was a dark movie, plus it had subtitles so I confess I didn’t really pay attention to the actual story. Just kept seeing people getting killed.
Braveheart just happen to be on and I just left it on the TV while I was editing the Gnomon VES project. It’s a long movie but entertaining.
Of course Sunday, you know I had to tune in and check ut the senoritas on República Deportiva.
‘Dare Devil‘ ah, I almost forgot how hot Jennifer Garner was and stopped me cold while channel surfing and began watching Dare Devil. I really did the the sound wave effects they did for the Dare Devil character’s vision.
They had Elektra on right after Dare Devil, so I left it on…

Another Work Week 0

Another week went by at work. Printing and organizing digital images, cleaning blemishes off people’s headshots. Not exactly exciting for me anymore, but right now because I have been doing it for so long it is an easier way to make a living. After work this week I did manage to work on Megan’s Big Cat Foundation calendar in hopes for me to be creative this weekend. All week I have felt rundown, tired and not motivated… hope my mood changes soon
This extremely ugly girl came in the lab today named LeAnne Thrasher that I did her headshot for. I did a search for her on Google and found this video of her modeling for Ripe TV(below). Also found her on Model Mayhem and another more updated video on VISION… okay maybe she’s a little cute or more to the point extremely HOT.

Simpsonize Yourself 0

I was simpsonized at the
Simpsons website

If you ever wondered what you would look like as a Simpsons character, now you can! As part of promotions for The Simpsons movie you can turn yourself into a Springfieldian. So go ahead try it out and be yellow!

Turn Yourself Into a Simpsons Character

Go to simpsonizeme.com, upload a photo of yourself and the application analyzes your face, turning you into an honorary Springfield resident.

Here are some tips from my own trial and error:
1. The site is under a heavy load, so if you keep getting errors, try again.
2. Your picture needs to be at least 640×480, but bigger is better. Go for 800×600 to be safe.
3. 72dpi is OK, but again: bigger is better.
4. Straight-on head shots are all that seem to work. If you get errors, go into Photoshop and pump up the contrast settings. The more, the better.
5. While in Photoshop, removing any random items behind your head will also improve your results, especially if they have a lot of texture. A white wall works, but things like bricks, trees and skylines need to go.
6. It may take a couple of attempts – it was quite bus y when I tried.
